Support Affordable Transportation For Those Who Need It
RATS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that fulfills the transportation needs of Rockbridge and Alleghany county residents, particularly those unable to transport themselves.
A large share of RATS clients receive Medicaid. However, Medicaid and other insurance do not reimburse RATS for the full cost of each trip. For clients without insurance or whose insurance does not cover transportation, fares are based on ability to pay. Thus, RATS loses money on nearly every ride, and we rely on other sources of revenue to remain operational.
RATS has been fortunate to receive financial support from our local governing agencies and United Way and through grants from national governmental organizations, hospitals, colleges and universities, and community service clubs. As vital as these sources of revenue are, we also rely heavily on individual contributions. RATS exists because of caring people who support it, contributing to a community where transportation is available regardless of ability to pay.
